Portable Heater

A portable heater is a device that is designed to produce heat and can be easily moved from one location to another. It is a convenient and effective solution for providing warmth during the colder months of the year. Portable heaters come in different forms, including halogen heaters, ceramic heaters, fan heaters, oil-filled radiators, and panel heaters.

In the construction industry, portable heaters are commonly used by plasterers for two main reasons. Firstly, portable heaters are essential in maintaining a consistently warm ambient temperature especially when working with plaster. Secondly, they are ideal in drying wet plastering and painting after application to the walls and ceiling.

plastering is the process of applying a thin layer of cement or plaster mixture onto a wall or ceiling to create a smooth surface. Plaster dries by evaporation and the ideal temperature for plastering is between 5°C and 25°C. When the temperature is too cold, it can prolong the drying process, causing delayed completion of work or producing an inferior finish. Portable heaters can be placed inside the working area, providing the required heat to expedite the curing process and avoid moisture-related problems such as dampness and mold.

Another use of portable heaters in plastering is drying paint that has been applied to the walls and ceiling. When painting, it is essential to provide sufficient ventilation and appropriate temperature to allow for the paint to dry quickly and give the best finish. By positioning a portable heater close to the painted surface, it will provide a continuous flow of warm air, thus expediting the drying process.

Portable heaters offer several advantages in plastering. They are relatively cost-effective, and require less energy to generate heat than central heating. They can heat a specific area far more quickly than a central heating system, providing a supply of hot air where it is required. Also, portable heaters come in small sizes which make them easy to transport, install and use, an crucial feature in construction sites, where space and accessibility is often tight.

In summary, portable heaters are a highly effective and practical tool that plasterers rely on to maintain the right temperature conditions when working with plaster or painting on walls and ceiling. They are easy to install and transport, consume less energy and cost less than central heating systems. By providing the necessary warmth required during plastering, they reduce the occurrence of common plastering problems, such as dampness and mold while improving the quality of the finished plastered walls and ceiling.
